Xylanaest with epinephrine is a medicine that causes local numbing (known as a local anaesthetic). It is given to you immediately before an operation near the site that is about to be operated upon. It will cause a loss of feeling and “numbness” at this site and switch off the pain.
Xylanaest with epinephrine is in principle only used by a doctor for local and regional nerve blocks (local and regional anaesthesia). Because epinephrine (= adrenaline) narrows the vessels, lidocaine is absorbed more slowly into the blood stream and consequently is available for longer and at a higher concentration at the site of action and in the tissue.
For information on risks and side effects read the package leaflet and ask your doctor or pharmacist.
